Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)
One of the key agreements adopted at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, is the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The subject of regulation and objective of the CBD is:
(1) conservation of biodiversity;
(2) sustainable use of its components (biological resources); and
(3) the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilisation of genetic resources.
